Ogun NSCDC gets 3 new divisions, area command

Abeokuta, Sept. 22, 2021 (NAN) Ogun Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has created three additional divisional headquarters and one area command for more effective coverage of the state.

Mr Kolawole Taiwo, the state commandant, made this known while briefing newsmen on his first three months in office.

With the new creations, Ogun command now have 61 divisions and nine area commands, Taiwo said.

He noted that the new structure had reduced the workload on the senior officers, while making for easy monitoring of the agency’s security operation in the state.

Taiwo added that the command had recently launched a joint task force with Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) to flush out unregistered private security companies in the state.

“Apart from the fact that such step would enhance intelligence gathering and sharing, it is important that we allow only verified, approved and certified personalities to run such enterprises for national interest,” he said.

The commandant added that he had recently launched the Ogun Special Female Armed Squad as directed by the NSCDC Commandant – General, Ahmed Audi.

He further said that within the period under review, he had secured the release of eight seized vehicles from the Naval Dockyard to aid adequate court processes.

On training, he said the command would audit and streamline all arms-bearing personnel in the command to ascertain their level of behavioural conduct and psychological capacity to bear arms.

“We are also training them to ensure that they do not constitute disaster, threat or problems, either to themselves or others before, during and after duties,” he said.

Meanwhile, the command on Thursday commenced a two-day capacity building workshop for all of its divisional officers and their assistants.

The training, with the theme, “Enhancing Professionalism Through Capacity Building”, is expected to broaden participants’ knowledge in the art of security and help adopt best practices in discharging their duties.

The commandant attributed the achievements to the immense support of the state government and the quality personnel he met on ground.

He pledged to sustain some of the policies of his predecessor, Hammed Abodunrin.
