Bring MAUSTECH To Ogun West, Ogun Lawmaker Insists

A member of Ogun State  House of Assembly, representing Ketu Constituency (II) in Yewa North local government, Hon. Wahab Haruna Egungbohun has requested for the establishment of Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) in Ogun West Senatorial District.

Hon. Wahab who is also the Chairman Committee on Environment made the appeal while addressing Journalists in Abeokuta the state capital, arguing that having University or MAUSTECH located in their domains is highly commendable but needed to be review for a proper approval.

It would be recalled that the immediate past Governor, Senator Ibikunke Amosun had announced his intention to convert Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in  Abeokuta into a degree-awarding institution, thereby relocating the polytechnic to Ipokia in Ogun West.

But Governor Abiodun took a new turn after his inauguration, reversed  Amosun’s policy by restoring MAPOLY and constituting a committee to review the new university and Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

Wahab revealed that Ogun West already has facilities in place at Ipokia assuring that the state government would not have problems establishing the polytechnic in the district.
The lawmaker appealed to Governor Abiodun to intervene on the establishment of MAUSTECH in Ogun West as that is the only hope of having a full fledged University in Yewa domains.

He hinted that since  MAPOLY has been returned to Abeokuta, the state government should bring the establishment of MAUSTECH in  Ipokia to life.
Hon. Wahab said Governor Abiodun  promised to establish a university in Ogun West during his campaign, he therefore appealed to Governor Abiodun to fulfill that promise.

The Lawmaker lamented that only the Ogun West had no university in the state while the remaining two districts have universities in their areas.

He said the University when fully operational will be pride of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Oyedele-Salako who is also from Ogun West.

His maintained that "Considering the establishment of MAUSTECH will beam a strong message of hope for the Ogun West saying that the likes of Hon. Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Jamiu Omoniyi,  Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo,  Commissioner for forestry Hon. Tunji Akinosi and other notable member of your cabinet from Ogun West will have a greater recognition at home.

He commended the effort of Prof. Anthony Afonja, Prince Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka,Dr kunle salako
Alh Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun,
Alh Hakeem Adigun (Sokopao) and other notable sons and daughter of Ogun West who took time to present the blue prints for Ogun West development plan to the Governor immediately after his inauguration.

The Lawmaker also called on the traditional rulers to support the establishment of MAUSTECH within the area, saying that the fight should be a collective responsibility of everyone.

He posited that other institution that has similar problem in other senatorial district has been solved, saying that "MAPOLY and TASCE is revived, adding that it's saddening that the (MAUSTECH) site in Ipokia has turned to hide out for armed robbers."

In his submission , he said Ogun West really deserved the University in other not to be feeling marginalized"
