Sultan of sokoto declares Friday as prayer day for the nation

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, has declared Friday, October 23, as a day of special prayer for the nation.

The monarch who is the president-general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) made the move over the unrest across the country that has led to the loss of lives in Lagos, Benin and other locations, The Sunreports.

Things, however, escalated on Tuesday night, October 220, as security forces allegedly opened fire on peaceful protesters in Lekki, Lagos, which also reportedly led to the loss of lives.

Nigerian Army, has, however, denied its involvement in the killings.

In the aftermath of the killings, hoodlums have been targeting some key public and private properties setting them ablaze even as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sues for calm.

Thus, on Wednesday, October 21, the Sultan declared Friday, October 23, a day for special prayer and issued special directives to Imams across the nation.

The monarch requested all Imams to dedicate their sermons to the ongoing crisis in the country, by calming down the strained nerves with their clement preaching for peace as well as their verbal ventilation of the national atmosphere for permanent tranquillity to the benefit of all and sundry.
