Gov. Abiodun's education policy has brought about increase in enrolment in schools - Commissioner

Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu,  the Ogun Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, on Wednesday, said that Gov. Abiodun's policies in the education sector had brought about increment in enrolment of learners in primary and secondary schools in the state. 

Arigbabu stated this at the Zonal Dissemination Workshop of the Nigeria's Education Sector Analysis (ESA) Report in the South-West Geopolitical Zones, held in Abeokuta. 

The commissioner pointed out that the state would continue to ensure that good and quality education were made available for all.

He applauded the governor's demonstration of total free education policy by cancelling all forms of payment and levies, saying it had brought more children into schools across the state. 

Arigbabu  revealed that despite the disruptive effect of COVID-19 pandemic on lives and economy of the country and the world at large, Gov.Abiodun had made notable and landmark achievements in the education sector. 

"On assumption of office, the governor declared a state of emergency in the education sector and this kick-started a lot of innovations in the sector, which has made landmark achievements in the critical field of education, " he said. 

The commissioner noted that the Education Sector Analysis (ESA) was one of the steps in sector planning which involved conducting an in-depth and holistic diagnosis of trends.

He added that the importance of reliable and credible data to education planning could not be overemphasised. 

In his submission, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said the ministry was committed to implementation of the findings , reports, promoting result oriented reforms and make impactful contributions in order to make Nigeria education sector globally competitive.

Echono , who was represented by the National ESA Co-ordinator, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr.  Folake Olatunji- David also craved the continued support, cooperation and collaboration of states, agencies and partners to continue to aligned with the task of enhancing quality education at all levels in the country.

 Olatunji-David called on government from all levels to prioritise quality and standard education, made strategic plans that would develop the sector, made proper needs assessment and be accountable for funds that were meant for the education sector.
