According to Okereafor, the apex students governing body said Sheik Gumi is a known friend of notorious bandits kidnappers, rapists and killers of the Nigerian students, adding that Nigerians should ignore the trend news of its president meeting with the Islamic cleric.

The release further reads, "As reasonable leaders, we have no doubt in the exemplary capacity and doggedness  of our security agents in combatting criminal elements, we are calling on saboteurs of the war against insurgents been tackled by our amiable president His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR under the disguise of religious cleric and affiliation should desist from such inimical act.

"NANS is calling for the prompt release of all students who are still in captivity in Niger, Kaduna, Kebbi, Borno and other parts of the country. It should be known that the continuous mass abduction of Nigerian Students has done more harm than good to the Nigeria education sector.

"This is no doubt a significant threat to the development and advancement of education in Nigeria, frightfully in the Northern region, which has the highest rate of out-of-school children in the country at the moment".

The students body however passed a vote of confidence on the Hon. Minister for Youths and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare,  for his far reaching steps in harmonizing Nigerian youths through the instrumentality of Sports.

"NANS completely frown at the bill to scrap the NYSC,  the proposed bill has two more readings in the green chamber and rounds of debates in the two legislative chambers, before it is sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent, we urge MR president not to consider assenting the bill as NYSC remains a major tool for spreading and preaching love aimed at national unity", he added
