Intl Students Day: NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator Aspirant, Elvis Celebrates With Students, Appeals To Govt On Free Education




A leading aspirant for the post of NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Ekundina Segun Elvis has appealed to the government at all levels to emulate the legacy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo by providing free education for all students at all levels.

Elvis made the appeal while joining other students bodies to celebrate with their colleagues (Nigeria Students) on the occasion of the International Students Day Celebration 2021.

Comrade Elvis who is also the Vice-Chairman, NANS Ogun JCC while commemorating with students hinted that the International Students Day is an international observance of the student community, held annually on 17 November. Originally commemorating the Czech universities which were stormed by Nazis in 1939 and the students who were subsequently killed and sent to concentration camp.

Student leaders and stakeholders under the umbrella of TEAM ELVIS FOR NANS SOUTHWEST ZONE D COORDINATOR while celebrating the International Students Day stated the urgent and absolute need for a total REPOSITIONING of the education system of this country as what we have presently is nothing to write home about.

Comrade Ekundina Segun Elvis who is a leading aspirant for the post of NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator spoke on behalf of the team and empathized on the role of all stakeholders in the all-round development of the educational sector. Stakeholders ranging from Government, School Management and Lecturers, Students etc have different roles to play uniformly and collectively for the betterment of the educational sector.

Comrade Elvis implored the government at all levels most especially the six states of the Southwest and the Federal Government of Nigeria to emulate the legacy of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo by providing free education for Students at all levels. As it's obvious that the economy of the country is presently not flourishing well for an average Nigerian, it's essential the government provides scholarship and bustries for students. This would increase the chances of an average Nigerian to have access to Quality education.

Also the government should pay premium attention to the security of lives and properties of our students, "The issue of insecurity on our campuses is becoming more and more rampant, there have series of security case's ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, rape among numerous others. We plead with the government and security operatives to see to this issues as a matter of urgency" - Comrade Elvis said.

He also implored the management of various institution to ensure Quality academic service delivery on their campuses. This can be achieved by providing conducive learning environment, time to time training of lecturers, provision of technological facilities in the school etc. Once the quality of academic service delivery is excellent, there would be a resultant and positive effect on the rate of employment and also the rate of development in the country.

It is also very important to note that as Students, we're the most important stakeholder in the educational sector and it is very essential we play our role by giving the required premium attention to our academics which is our basic responsibility on campus. Also it is recommended that as Students, we should engage in various entrepreneurial and leadership activities while on campus.
