Gateway Progressive Youths Celebrates Democracy Day, Calls For Renewed Spirit in Nation Building

The Gateway Progressive Youths has congratulated Nigerians and the people of the Gateway state on the occasion of Nigeria’s 23rd Democracy Day celebration

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement made available by the PRO of the group, Olamide David.
David counselled Nigerians to exploit the diversity of the country for national development especially in the spirit of our Democracy, as this year's edition marked 23 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.

He siad one of the principal issues, politically, was the recognition of the 1993 election which was won by, now late, Chief MKO Abiola, an important progressive opposition leader. 

Speaking to Newsmen, the Coordinator of the group, Olufemi Bashorun said every youth should make it a duty to participate in the next general election by collecting thier Voter's card and voting for thier preferred candidates without engaging in violence.

He added that Nigeria’s strength hinged on its diversity which had produced outstanding people in various fields of endeavour across the world.

“We are known all over the world for our confidence; our business acumen, our great culture and traditions.

“These attributes derive from one of our greatest asset which is our diversity; diversity in culture, diversity in language and diversity in faith

“This diversity enriches everything that we have,’’ he said.

Bashorun congratulated all the heroes of Nigeria’s democracy for laying the foundation and upholding democracy, while extending the appreciation of the group to Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration’s commitment to progressive ideals, especially as it relates to the political history of the country.

The group joined the Ogun state government in its Democracy Day walk to celebrate Nigeria's past heroes, who fought for its independence and Democracy which has become the foundation upon with different political leaders are building the future of the country.
