Lagos partners chefs for 2022 food festival Dec 11


The Lagos State Government says it is partnering the Culinary Arts Professionals Association (CAPA) to showcase Nigeria and other African cuisines at the 2022 Lagos Food Festival.
The festival will also feature the best “Jollof rice” competition between Nigeria and other African countries.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, said this at a media parley to unveil the programme at the Good Beach, Oniru, on Friday in Lagos.
Olusanya said the festival would hold on Dec. 11, at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of this year’s Lagos Food Festival is “A taste of Africa”.
She said this year’s edition would attract chefs from Lagos, Nigeria and other African countries to prepare local and international cuisines.
Olusanya said that 2022 edition of Lagos Food Festival was aimed at showcasing culture and the uniqueness of Lagos state as a state of aquatic splendour.
She said that over N25 million transaction was recorded during the 2021 edition with about 7,500 participants.
According to her, the festival will also give stakeholders across the various food chain opportunities to interact with consumers, get feedback as well as showcase the ecosystem being created by the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
“The festival will feature jollof rice war between Nigeria and other African countries.
“The festival will provide enabling environment for residents to generally have fun and relax with family and friends as the Yuletide approaches.
“It will also stimulate local and foreign investor interest in the food business,” she said.
Olusanya noted that the Lagos Food Festival was an offshoot of the annual seafood festival organised to celebrate varieties of seafoods spiced up with other exciting activities for residents.
The commissioner said the programme would create direct and indirect jobs for value chain actors, SMEs and artisan.
Olusanya assured attendees that the food festival would be exciting, entertaining and enlightening adding that it would leave a long-lasting impression in the minds of visitors and participants.
“The festival is open to the general public to attend with their children and wards to enjoy entertainment, the biggest fish auction, musical performances, games corner and seafood pavilion.
“Other activities are culinary competitions with celebrity chefs, as well as family cooking competitions among others.
She urged residents to come out in large numbers to witness best of culture, culinary dexterity, games, music, networking and enjoy good life.
Chef Gbolabo Adebakin, Vice President, Culinary Arts Professional Association, said the association was proud to partner with the Lagos State Government to showcase Nigerian and African cuisines.

Adebakin said an Afro fusion menu of indigenous food to Lagos State would be curated alongside what he called “the African Dining experience” during the event.
Dr Rotimi Fashola, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rice Initiative, urged residents to troop out in large number with family and loved ones to have fun and enjoy best cuisines at the festival.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
