Day Omolara Folorunsho empowered 230 Iseyin youths with equipment after 18 months training

...targets two million indigenes from Oke-Ogun in Oyo 

 

It was really a dream come through moments for 230 youths of Iseyin area of Oyo state on Saturday when a  Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Folorunsho Adisa Welfare Initiative gave them equipment after training them for 18 months on different skills. 

The NGO which was founded by Princess Omolara Adisa Folorunsho did a "mother of all empowerment" to the Iseyin Indigenes by training them on skills which include; catering, hairdressing, ICT, soap making, Tailoring and cosmetolog and Barbing. 

The United Kingdom based philanthropist also donated working equipment to all the 230 beneficiaries of the skills acquisition programme. 

Speaking on the essence of the empowerment programme, Princess Omolara Folorunsho explained that the gesture is to give back to her community. 

The Iseyin born philanthropist explained that empowering the youths will reduce the insecurity and unemployment that have beclouded the community. 

She also noted that the gesture was part of the initiatives instituted to keep the memory of her late father alive even two years after his death.

 

She said, "a native of Iseyin. I live in United Kingdom, I have come down all the way from England to assist my people in my town.

"I have been in UK for 20 years, I decided to come to my community, to help the youth and empower them.

"The aims of the foundation is actually to help the youth to learn how to acquire skills. We have eight departments at Folorunsho Adisa Welfare Initiative ; we have catering, Hairdressing, ICT, soap making, Tailoring and cosmetology departments. 

" We have over 230 students for the eight departments and we are glad that today is their first graduation. 

"The students will presented with equipment because the empowerment is  to help them have the skills and provide them with equipment."

Folorunsho who claimed to have spent over 20 million on the projects further said the foundation will render support for no fewer than two million indigenes from Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state. 

She also said the empowerment programme will also take place in Kajola area of the state from next week. 

"For this project, I have spent like 20 million Nair because Folorunsho Adisa Welfare Initiative was inaugurated about two years ago and we have been training them for over a year and half.  I have been single handedly supporting myself from hard earned money, but I am glad that I did it."

In their remarks, the parents of the beneficiaries commended the philanthropist for assisting in training their children. 

Mrs M.B Opeesa who spoke on behalf of the parents described the gesture as first in the history of the town. 

She however called on other well-to-do indigenes of the community to come back and give back to their homes.
