Eid-El-Kabir: Ogun-Waterside Executive Vice Chairman, Hon. (Princess) Phillips, Greets Muslims, Preaches Peaceful coexistence

As the Muslim faithful in Nigeria join the rest of their counterparts worldwide to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, the Executive Vice Chairman of Ogun-Waterside LG., Hon. (Princess) Aboye Philips has congratulated Muslims in the local government on the occasion of this year’s celebration.

She charged Muslims to deeply reflect on the historical and religious background of the annual celebration and urged the adherents of Islamic faith not to be carried away by winning and dining that the slaughtering of rams would naturally attract but by the essence of the significant event.

According to her, “We should not be lost on the purpose of what we are celebrating. We must be conscious of the eternal love of the Almighty for mankind, the undiluted faith in Him as well as total submission to His will which all manifested when the event that culminated into this celebration was originally held. It is also a time for sober reflection on our beliefs and engagements with our neighbours as the Holy book charges us to.”

“Eid-El-Kabir symbolizes redemption, sacrifice, forgiveness, altruism and love. In the spirit of the celebration, Muslims should imbibe the injunctions of the Faith, which teaches humility, gratitude and charity towards one another. The sacrifice, which we celebrate, must spur us on to sacrifice for the progress and prosperity of Ogun-Waterside LG and Nigeria. Sacrificing for our dear state and country means giving our best in our various areas of endeavour.

“The Festival comes with significant lessons for mankind. It is a symbolic Islamic festival that is a constant reminder to us that, there will always be great rewards when we have long-lasting faith and perseverance in trying periods; diligence in prayers and tenacity in our belief”. She added

She called on all Muslims to take the opportunity of the festival to pray for the country, adding that Nigeria is home to us all, and it requires the prayers and inputs of everyone to take Nigeria to greater heights.
