Ogun Lawmaker Commends FG Over Provision of Borehole In Igbokofi Border Community


...Appeals For More Developmental Projects In The Community 



Member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun has commended the federal government on borehole developmental project sited at Igbokofi, a border community in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Igbokofi community was said to feel as Nigerians as they now have a functional borehole provided by Nigeria government to protect them from the persistent harassment they once experienced from the Benin Republic police.


The lawmaker, representing Yewa North Ketu State Constituency (II) made the commendation on Monday, however advocated for more developmental projects such as provision of good roads, school, electricity poles among others from government at all levels. 

Hon. Wahab expressed optimism that the development would be beneficial to Igbokofi Community if the government can come to their aide as he described roads as major challenges affecting the community.  

This borehole, located along the disputed boundary between Nigeria and Benin Republic was commissioned on 17th June, 2023, as proof of ownership of the encroaching area by Nigeria Government to deter further incursions by the Beninese police.

While commending the federal government on the borehole project, Hon. Wahab noted that much needed to be done for the displaced Igbokofi people in terms of providing dividends of democracy to the community. 

The lawmaker also lauded the leadership role Pastor Kunle Garb played for standing firm for the development of the community. 

He therefore appealed to the state government under the leadership of Dapo Abiodun for the implementation of more infrastructural projects including access roads, health facilities and police station to further enable the residents enjoy democratic dividends.

The lawmaker equally expressed confidence that Governor Abiodun was capable of exploring all necessary avenues to find a lasting solution to the problem, with an appeal for the utilization of the intervention projects comprising of school, health centre and market stall. 

He said all his efforts to ensure the community lands was not encroached by the Beninese government was not in vain, appealing for similar developmental projects in Tobolo, Pedepo, Ipobe/ Obele, Egelu to Agbelepo/Asa communities. 

To this end, the lawmaker therefore commended the Deputy governor of the State, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele whose through her office was used for the development of the community.
