The new Asigangan of Iganganland, Oba AbdulRafiu Adeniyi Olaniyi Ariwoola, has called on the Oyo State government to leverage on the agriculture potential of his town to boost food security.
According to the traditional ruler, Igangan being an agrarian community has what it takes to be the food basket of Oyo State.
Oba Ariwoola, who made the call at a news conference in Igangan as part of activities for his coronation ceremony and presentation of the staff of office, asked Governor Seyi Makinde to tap into the agricultural opportunities in the area.
The Monarch explained that the town which is boast of arable expanse of lands if well harnessed will assist the state government in its food security.
He added that the current rising cost of food items and hunger being faced by the people in the state like their counterparts across the country can only be addressed through agriculture.
According to Asigangan, when the community is boast of arrays of farmers, they only need the supports of the state government with farm inputs such as seedlings, tools and fund needed for modern day farming.
"Our governor being a farmer loving person needs to tap into the God given potentials of abundance of farmlands and fertile soil to turn the Igangan to food basket of the state and by extension the country at large", he said.
"We have more than enough farmers only that the government needs to support them with needed materials to engage in mechanized farming instead of small scale farming they are currently practicing ", the traditional ruler added.
"Our community is peaceful and well secured at the moment and our farmers including our able bodied youths both male and female are ready to venture into farming, they only need little push in terms of support from the state government" the monarch said.
Speaking on the event, Oba Ariwoola assured the guests of peaceful, conducive and well secured atmosphere with hospitality at its best during the ceremony.
Asigangan commended Governor Makinde for his special love for the community, especially on the installation of the new monarch and other needs of the town and it's environs.
The coronation ceremony and presentation of the staff of office to the new Asigangan will take place on Monday, February 19, 2024
