Ogun Lawmaker, Hon Wahab, Calls for Increased Amotekun Recruitment to Address Herdsmen, Kidnapping Challenges in Ogun

In a bid to tackle the persistent challenges of herdsmen and kidnapping in his constituency, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun, a lawmaker representing Yewa North (II) Ketu State Constituency, has called for an urgent increase in the recruitment of Amotekun personnel.

The lawmaker, during his recent personal explanation to the Speaker of the house at the plenary session on Tuesday emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the people in his constituency.

Hon. Wahab highlighted the alarming rise in incidents involving herdsmen and kidnappers, stressing the importance of proactive measures to combat these threats.

Recognizing the effectiveness of the Amotekun security outfit in other parts of the country, Hon Wahab proposed that the state government increase the recruitment of Amotekun personnel in his constituency. By bolstering the presence of these security teams, he believes that the government can effectively address the challenges posed by herdsmen and kidnappers.

He said the aims was to ensure the safety and well-being of the people he represents, urging the government to take immediate action.

Hon. Wahab stressed that waiting until people are attacked by the Fulani herdsmen is not the solution. Instead, he urged Governor Abiodun to proactively address the issue and implement effective measures to ensure the safety and security of the people.

According to him "My suggestions was to recruit more local security agencies, such as Amotekun, which has been successful in other parts of the country. By increasing the presence of these security teams, the government can enhance its ability to combat insecurity, especially in areas like Yewa North where the issue is particularly prevalent.

"It's important to prioritize the well-being of the people and work towards finding a lasting solution to this pressing issue."

He added "Insecurity affects not only the physical safety of individuals but also has a significant impact on the overall development and progress of a region. By addressing the issues of Fulani herdsmen and kidnappers, the state government can create an environment that fosters growth, economic stability, and social harmony."the lawmaker concluded.
