Osun Amotekun arrests suspected electric pole cable thief 



 Osun Amotekun Corps on Wednesday,  said it arrested one Jimoh Sodiq, 20, for allegedly stealing aluminum electric cables on electric poles at Sawmill Area, Ido-Osun, Egbedore Local Government Area.

In a statement by Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, Osun Amotekun State Commander, the suspect, an indigene of Ikirun who resides in Sabo, Osogbo, was apprehended by Amotekun operatives on patrol, at about 5:15 a.m on Monday.

He said the suspect was caught in the act, using a plier to cut aluminum electric wires on top three electric poles in the Saw-Mill Area of Ido-Osun.

"Operatives of the corps, on Monday, arrested a suspect who specialises in stealing electric tansformer cables and electric pole aluminum wires and selling them off in another town.

"During preliminary investigation, he confessed to perpetrating the act and that it is not his first time of stealing electric cables and selling them to his customers in other towns. 

"He further confessed that himself and four others, used to work together to vandalize electric poles and cart away electrical aluminum wires found on the poles.


"He said his gang have operated in Osogbo, Ido-Osun, Cocoa Factory House Ede, Okinni and Owode Ede Communities and its environs," Adewinmbi said

The commander, however,  added that the suspect has been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.
