Ogun declares Gbagura Regency Council illegal

Ogun State government has declared the Gbagura Regency Council as illegal and it should ceased to exist.

It would be recalled that the Gbagura community of Egbaland setup the council after the demise of Agura of Gbagura, Oba Babajide Bakre to select new monarch.

But the council which was headed by Chief Bode mustapha and has Chief Nuru Olaleye as it's Secretary was enmeshed in crisis some weeks ago.

The crisis, it was gathered led to the removal of Olaleye. Olaleye therefore
petitioned the Ogun State's Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs through James Adeloye of Afolabi Fashanu & CO.

However, the government in response to the petition, said the council cannot stand.

According to a letter signed by the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Aderinwale O. A for Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, insisted that that the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021 does not recognize Regency Council and allied matters.

The letter reads:
