FCE Osiele To Begin Own Degree Programmes In Music Education, Others in September



The Federal College of Education, Abeokuta is to commence its own degree programmes in September 2025 after it had over the years partnered with the Lagos State University and University of Ibadan.

The Provost of the college, Dr Rafiu Adekola Soyele made this known in his welcome speech at the 20th Annual National Conference of the Society of Music Educators of Nigeria (SOMEN)tagged 'Abeokuta 2025'.

He affirmed that Music Education will be one of the degree courses to be offered with focus on producing music educators who can hold their own anywhere in the world using Artificial Intelligence tools as aids.

A former executive secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola OFR who was the keynote speaker at the occasion while speaking on the theme of the conference 'Artificial Intelligence (AI): Applications and Implications in Music Education' defined AI as a set of technologies that enable machines to mimic human intelligence which can be deployed to accelerate music composition, enhance creativity, grant easy access to complex music structures and achieve broad genre fusion.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of FCE, Abeokuta who was also the chairman of the occasion Mr Alex Eyengho, a veteran Nollywood actor described music and film as Siamese twins.

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the conference, Dr Deborah Lawal decried low enrollment in music courses and averred that the trend was changing as some popular artistes like Davido and Ebenezer Obey have taken steps to go back to school to earn degrees in music.
Awardees at the event included Alake of Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (Okukenu IV), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr Tẹẹ Mac, Pupa Orits Wiliki, Alh Chief Sefiu Alao Adekunle, Prince Olufemi Dokunmu, Ejike Asiegbu, Chief (Mrs) Omolara Adenike Akintade, JP and Taidob College, Asero, Abeokuta.
