Former PDP Presidential Aspirant, Anakwenze Calls for Tougher Security Measures Against Insecurity

A former Presidential aspirant under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has urged the Federal Government to step up its efforts in addressing the security situation of the country.

Though he commented the President Bola Tinubu administration for prioritising security and facilitating collaboration among the security agencies, he said that a lot still needs to be done to check the worrisome kidnappings for ransom, bandits attacks, clashes between herders and farmers, and killings in some parts of the country.

In a statement Signed, Anakwenze said “It is commendable that President Bola Tinubu in his second anniversary speech on Thusday declared that the nation's security situation is improving as his administration has prioritised security and safety, improving collaboration among security agencies and increasing intelligence-driven operations.to effectively combat the security challenges.

“It is also heartwarming that the military has restored order in some areas of the Northwest previously controlled by bandits, allowing farmers to return to their land and making highways safer for travellers.

“Equally comforting  is the knowledge that the security agencies have successfully rescued some abducted citizens from their captors, demonstrating their commitment to protecting lives and property.

“IIt is also noteworthy that President Tinubu has charged the security chiefs to remain vigilant and collaborate to end the threat of evil men, and thereby ensure that  every Nigerian can live without fear..

However, Anakwenze was unhappy about the worrisome violent attacks on some communities in Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, and other northern states occasioming killings and destruction of properties; while the people there live on fear and anxiety.

He also noted some recent kidnappings and killings in Kogi and Ondo State where a royal father, the Obalohun of Okoloke in Kogi State, Oba James Ogunyanda Ilufemiloye; and Mr. Nelson Adegboyigi, were abducted and killed after ransom payment.

Anakwenze noted that “despite some improvement, there is still a need for heightened efforts by the security agencies, with the full backing of the Federal Government, to tackle frontally and decisively, the persisting security challenges and emerging trends.”

According to him, ‘Most importantly, there is a strong need for comprehensive revolutionary economic reforms to stabilise the economy, galvanise and promote productivity and employment rather than mere consumption, wastefulness and idleness, create abundant opportunities for the youths and unemployed, and reduce poverty.

“I believe strongly that the implementation of these measures, which focus on human capital  development tohether with the ongoing Initiatives lin education, healthcare, and youth empowerment programmes being implemented to support national development and stability,. will greatly contribute to improved security, peace and  development of the people of our dear country Nigeria”.
