NANS North Central Zone Rejects HYPADDEC MD, Somefun Appointment, Citing Breach of Establishing Act

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) North Central Region (Zone C) has condemned and rejected the recent appointment of Mrs. Tomi Somefun as the Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADDEC).

In a statement made available to journalists, the student body asserts that the appointment flagrantly violates the commission's establishing Act.

According to the statement by the NANS Zone C Coordinator, Hussaini Jamilu Ebbo, explained that Mrs. Somefun's appointment breaches Section 12 (a) of the HYPADDEC Act.

According to him, "this section clearly stipulates that the Managing Director must be an indigene of a member state, the position shall rotate among member states, and the appointee must not be from the same state as the Chairman.

"Mrs. Somefun's appointment disregards these statutory requirements, as she is not from any of the HYPADDEC member states," Ebbo stated. The member states of HYPADDEC include Niger, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Plateau, Kaduna, and Gombe.

NANS Zone C therefore urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to immediately reverse the appointment and ensure strict adherence to the Act establishing the commission.
