The Barods Empowerment Foundation has presented certificates to beneficiaries of its three-day skill acquisition training programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its efforts to equip young people with practical skills for self-reliance and productivity.
The presentation ceremony held today in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
While speaking at the event, the co-founder of Barods Empowerment Foundation, Mr. Adekunle Banjo, advised the trainees and Nigerian youths not to depend solely on academic certificates but to embrace skill acquisition as a pathway to personal growth and national development.
The foundation co-founder stressed that young people must take responsibility for their future rather than placing all expectations on government or traditional rulers.
He noted that acquiring practical skills and engaging in meaningful handwork will help youths remain focused and productive in society rather than idling away without direction.
According to him "My action is just to let you know as part of my speech that our youths they need a lot of skills and we can't rely only on our certificates and we can't leave or put everything on the hand of our government, president or governor's or the kings in the community.
"The youths need to push and skills start from home, and you need to be performing something, let your parents know what you know how to do.
"You need handwork and that is how we can transform our youths so that they will not be able to be doing what is not taught from home, so skill aquisition that we have today we have it to transform our youths and to let them have something on their hand to be doing instead of going around and doing some things that is not thoughtful and so that is why we are having the project today skill aquisition training for our youths thank you".
While also urging the students to make use of what they have been taught and trained on, for them to be useful for other young ones in the future, Mr Banjo said, "And lastly my message is for them is that they need to as i have said one of our beneficiary that we taught before today now he came to train some other students.
"So today now all the beneficiaries they have to know in their mind that they must not just wait behind they need to thought of another use that is coming up so that we can be proud of them, we are proud of one of our beneficiary that is giving other youths training today. So my message to them is that they must have it in mind by next year again we want them to be active for other youths again. "
Speaking on confidence and boldness of the students, Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Babatunde Denton urged the students to be bold and have enough confidence in anywhere they found themselves, as he also gave a cash gift for students who represented their department for being bold enough to appreciate the foundation.
Mr. Denton revealed that the foundation has sponsored over 65 students for their West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams and they all performed excellently, while it also pledged to do same for those yet to write their Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination and to their higher institutions level.
