Chaos in Kano: Shooting Stars Earn Late Draw Amid Post-Match Violence

A dramatic evening at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, turned ugly as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) were attacked by hostile fans moments after earning a 1–1 draw against Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter.

Kano Pillars had gone ahead early in the 9th minute through J. Mustapha, before Mustapha Adams netted a dramatic 94th-minute equalizer to extend 3SC’s unbeaten run to four matches. However, celebrations quickly turned sour as chaos erupted after the final whistle — 3SC players and match officials were reportedly assaulted, leaving several players injured.

The team had to be escorted out of the stadium by police officers in scenes described as disturbing and regrettable. Observers have since condemned the violence, calling it a bad omen for Nigerian football and a setback for efforts to promote fair play and sportsmanship in the NPFL.

Despite the unpleasant experience, 3SC’s spirited display and fighting spirit remain a testament to their resurgence, as they continue their quest for continental qualification and league success. Fans back home in Ibadan praised the team’s resilience and wished them a safe return home.
