Eight Nabbed as Oyo State intensifies Clampdown on Illegal Waste Disposal

The Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has intensified its enforcement operations against environmental offenders, leading to the arrest of eight individuals caught illegally dumping refuse on road medians across the state.

The arrests were made during a coordinated night and early morning raid by the Environmental Task Force Team, led by Environmental Health Officers under the Ministry’s supervision. The offenders were arraigned before Justice Agbefarin at the Environmental Court in Ibadan, where they were charged for violating the Oyo State Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management Regulation.

According to the Ministry, the latest exercise underscores the government’s renewed commitment to restoring environmental sanity and promoting a cleaner, safer Oyo State.

“The cleanliness of our surroundings is a collective duty,” the Ministry stated. “Residents are urged to properly dispose of their waste using government-approved waste bins and registered collectors. The Task Force will continue to enforce sanitation laws without fear or favor.”

The Ministry also reaffirmed Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration’s dedication to sustaining environmental reforms aimed at improving public health, boosting urban aesthetics, and fostering sustainable development across the state.
