Obafemi Owode Councillor Refutes Claims of Fencing Public Access Road

The Councillor representing Owode ward 3, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Lateef Adekunle Ajayi has debunked reports alleging that he fenced or blocked a public access road in the local government, describing the story as misleading and a distortion of facts surrounding the recent inspection by the Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA) Committee on Environment.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ajayi clarified that the claims attributed to the committee’s visit were untrue, stressing that at no point did he obstruct any public road linking Eredo-Alase and neighbouring communities.

He explained that the inspection by the House Committee was part of its routine legislative oversight and not a confirmation of any wrongdoing.

According to the statement, contrary to the narrative being circulated, the committee merely indicated that relevant stakeholders, including the local government chairman and the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, would be involved in further assessments to ensure compliance with existing regulations.

Ajayi also attributed the misleading report to misrepresentation of facts driven by business rivalry between him and Mr Ajibola Johnson Akindele, noting that such actions were aimed at tarnishing his image and undermining his longstanding contributions to the development of Obafemi-Owode communities.

He reaffirmed that he remains a law-abiding citizen and a public servant committed to transparency, peace and community development, adding that his activities have always been guided by due process and respect for constituted authorities.

The councillor urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of creating unnecessary tension, assuring residents that access roads within the area remain open and unhindered.

He therefore pledged continued cooperation with all relevant government agencies, while calling on the media to uphold the principles of fairness and accuracy in reporting
