Stakeholders Demand Zoning Shift to Ayetoro in Yewa North Assembly Seat

Concerned stakeholders in Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I have called for the rotation of the Ogun State House of Assembly seat to Ayetoro Zone ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the need for fairness and balanced representation.

This was contained in an open letter addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun, elder statesman Olusegun Osoba, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

In the letter, the stakeholders said their appeal was grounded in “historical facts and democratic principles,” stressing that political inclusion and equity remain essential for unity and sustainable development within the constituency.

They noted that Yewa North Isokan Constituency I, made up of seven wards across Iju and Ayetoro zones, has experienced uneven representation since the return to democracy in 1999.

According to the group, Iju Zone has held the assembly seat for about 20 years, while Ayetoro Zone has only occupied the position for eight years within the same period.

The stakeholders recalled that the constituency’s first representative in the Fourth Republic, Hon. J.O. Bankole, and his successor, Hon. Sunday David Kojeku, both from Iju Zone, collectively held the seat from 1999 to 2011.

They added that although Ayetoro Zone produced Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, who served between 2011 and 2019, representation later reverted to Iju Zone with the election of Hon. Adejoke Awoso, who is currently in office.

The group further argued that the current political structure in the constituency already favours Iju Zone, which holds key positions including commissioner and local government chairman.

While acknowledging that Ayetoro Zone has produced a minister at the federal level, the stakeholders maintained that this does not replace the need for equitable representation at the state legislative level.

They warned that continued imbalance could undermine unity and political inclusion, urging the APC leadership to adopt zoning and rotation principles in selecting its candidate for the 2027 election.

The stakeholders therefore appealed for support from party leaders and constituents to ensure that Ayetoro Zone produces the next representative for Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I.
