DEMOCRACY DAY 2026: HON. AYO FATOKUN CELEBRATES NIGERIANS, CALLS FOR UNITY AND PRAYERS FOR ORIIRE ABDUCTEES

As Nigerians commemorate the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the Convener of Alaafia Movement, Hon. Ayo Fatokun, has congratulated citizens on the nation's democratic journey while calling for renewed commitment to peace, unity, and good governance.

In his Democracy Day message, Hon. Fatokun described democracy as a continuous journey that requires the collective efforts of leaders and citizens alike to deepen democratic values, strengthen institutions, and ensure inclusive development for all.

Reflecting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Democracy Day address, which emphasized national unity, economic resilience, democratic consolidation, and shared prosperity, Hon. Fatokun urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and actively contribute to nation-building despite prevailing challenges.

He also paid glowing tribute to Nigeria's democratic heroes and patriots whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the freedoms enjoyed today. According to him, the ideals of justice, equity, accountability, and service to the people must remain the guiding principles of governance at all levels.

While celebrating the gains of democracy, Hon. Fatokun expressed deep concern over the continued captivity of the Oriire abductees, noting that their plight remains a painful reminder of the security challenges confronting communities across the country.

"We celebrate Democracy Day with gratitude to God and appreciation for our democratic heroes. However, our hearts remain with the Oriire abductees and their families. We fervently pray for their immediate and safe release and urge security agencies to intensify efforts towards bringing them home unharmed," he stated.

The Alaafia Movement further called on residents of Oyo State and Nigerians generally to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to uphold the values of peace and communal harmony.

Hon. Fatokun concluded by praying for a more secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria where every citizen can live, work, and pursue their aspirations in peace.

"As we celebrate democracy today, may Nigeria continue to advance in peace, progress, and prosperity, and may the Oriire abductees regain their freedom soonest by the grace of Almighty God."
