From Degrees to Skills: NYSC Corps Members Begin Specialised CNG Retrofitting Training

The future of automotive mobility is taking shape, and Nigerian youths are getting ready to take the wheel.

Following the removal of the fuel subsidy in 2023 and the subsequent increase in petrol prices, the Federal Government introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a more affordable and locally available alternative for motorists.

Today marks the beginning of a significant youth empowerment initiative as 300 NYSC corps members commence specialised training in CNG vehicle retrofitting, through a partnership between the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), facilitated by the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi.

The selected corps members, drawn from backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Electrical Engineering, will receive hands-on training across Abuja, Kano, Adamawa, Enugu, Edo and Lagos.

But this is more than just another training programme.

It is about transforming academic qualifications into practical competence, skills into opportunities, and young Nigerians into professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria's rapidly developing CNG ecosystem.

The training officially begins today at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, after which participating corps members will continue their practical learning through attachments at approved CNG conversion centres throughout their service year.
