FG moves to equip young Nigerians with practical skills for Nigeria’s growing gas-powered mobility sector

The Federal Government’s CNG Retrofitting Training Programme has expanded to Kano State, following the successful commencement of the initiative in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of efforts to equip Nigerian youths with practical skills and position them for emerging opportunities in the automotive and gas-powered mobility sector.

The programme is training 300 NYSC corps members drawn from Mechanical, Automotive and Electrical Engineering backgrounds across six states — FCT, Kano, Adamawa, Enugu, Edo and Lagos.

The initiative is designed to provide participants with hands-on knowledge of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion and retrofitting technology, giving young Nigerians industry-relevant skills that can translate into sustainable livelihoods and employment opportunities.

Speaking during her visit to the Kano NYSC, the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi, further engaged stakeholders on the implementation and extension of the CNG Retrofitting Training Programme to Kano State.

The programme goes beyond the acquisition of certificates, focusing on practical skills, technical competence, industry exposure and entrepreneurship opportunities for young Nigerians as the country continues to develop its CNG and automotive ecosystem.

The initiative is being implemented through collaboration among the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), and the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles (PiCNG & EV).

The expansion to Kano represents another significant step in placing Nigerian youths at the centre of the country's economic transformation, while creating a pipeline of skilled young professionals capable of supporting the growth of Nigeria's emerging CNG-powered mobility sector.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the initiative underscores the administration's focus on youth empowerment through practical skills, innovation and access to emerging economic opportunities.
